The article is very well written and appeals straight to the
emotions. The author uses statistics and facts that support the argument very,
very well. The first thought that came to my mind is disgust. Such a large
amount of women being unhappy with their bodies and their over-all lives
because of what is seen as “socially accepted” is awful. Then I felt a drive to
help the younger generations. If OLDER, less easily persuaded women are being shaded
by the pictures they see, what does that say for the youth that only know what
they see? The girls we bring up in today’s society are never going to be happy
with the bodies they have. The author mentions that being weight obsessed actually
changes your brain chemistry. The media plays a huge role in telling the population
what’s right and wrong and we all think we have no choice but to listen. The solution
of boycotting the magazines MIGHT help, but in my opinion, they’ll keep doing
what they know works.
