Devastating Beauty

The essay begins with a very capturing introduction. The author uses emotional appeals (pathos) in order to immediately connect with the audience. The author then provides background information on how the image of the "perfect girl" has changed over time. She goes on to explain that the media has completely corrupted a healthy body image for girls of ALL ages and as a result, the majority of women are dissatisfied with their own body. Finally, the author talks about her solution to the problem after explaining that legal matters can not be taken regarding the issue. She suggests that if everyone was to boycott magazines that corrupt this view of a healthy body image, it would drastically change the way that women view themselves and their bodies. Not only does she provide her own personal hypothesis, she provides evidence (logos) to show that boycotts are in fact effective.
