The example of public writing that I used for this assignment is from an online tech blog called Cult of Android. As the name suggests, the source provides lots of articles about what is new in the tech world, specifically relating to all things Android. The title of the article itself is, “Why Steve Jobs told Larry Page he was doing to much.” The article starts off by talking about Google’s co- founder, Larry Page’s interview with Financial Times in which he talked about Google’s “expository approach to business compared to Apple.” The article goes on to talk about a constant conversation between both Jobs and Page where Jobs would always criticize Page for “doing to much stuff,” and where Page would reply, “You’re not doing enough stuff.” Job’s wanted Page to pick five good products to focus on and told him to forget the rest. He said that instead of making tons of good products; focus on making 5 GREAT products. Page’s idea was and is to make billions of people’s lives better by not just doing the same thing over and over but by experimenting and creating new things to revolutionize the world. The article concludes by explaining that this difference is the main difference between Apple and Google’s culture. Apple wants to perfect a small amount of products while Google wants to branch out and have a hand in every aspect of revolutionizing technology.  Most importantly though, “As tech consumer’s we’re lucky that we get to reap the benefit of both philosophies.”

This article relates to the reading because it focuses on an attempt to convince the audience and it explores certain issues.  The articles main focus is to use the philosophies of the two leading tech giants, Apple and Google, and show that these ideas are at the core of each company and therefore directly influence the products that are created by them. It also explores the idea that although these philosophies are completely opposite of one another, the consumers of these products can greatly benefit from the differences in the products they buy.
